Boxing Fitness Health Benefits
Boxing is a combat sport that knows its origins from the ancient Greeks and the original Olympics. It is a sport that trains athletes in the art of striking and general performance and physical conditioning.
But Boxing is not considered as just a sport anymore, but as a popular fitness activity which can be done by all age groups. There is not a focus on fighting in the ring but instead it focuses on exercise routines that provide great benefit to the person’s wellbeing. Physical therapist Linda Arslanian, director of rehabilitation services at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s hospital describes that “This kind of boxing has many health benefits, because it constantly requires you to think, change your position, and change your posture.”
Some of the main health beneifts brought about by boxing fitness are mainly;
- aiding with weight loss; boxing fitness has shown that this kind of exercise decreases body fat and improve overall body composition
- improves heart health; this is in connection to the type of exercise performed, or else as it’s otherwise known, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).
- helps with shaping and building of muscle within the whole body; boxing fitness incorporates all the body, working through the upper body also works the core and lower body through various combinations of punches and footwork.
- lowers blood pressure; both fitness boxing and HIIT training, have generally shown to decrease both diastolic and systolic blood pressure, helping lower the stress on the blood vessels, which in turn lowers blood pressure.
- improves balance; boxing involves being aware of changing conditions and acting reactively, it requires coordinated footwork, and building muscular strength all which help in improving balance.
Apart from that, boxing fitness is the ultimate stress reliever, where a healthy dose of rigorous exercise coupled with punching, ducking and diving can keep you feeling refreshed holistically.
